CT Scan Referrals

Our on site CT scanner allows us to obtain detailed images of dogs, cats and other small pets without the need for our patients to have to travel long distances to a referral veterinary hospital.

CT (Computerised Tomography) rapidly emits a series of narrow x-ray beams through the patient’s body as they are moved through the doughnut shaped scanner. A computer is then used to produce a cross-sectional image of the required field. This very detailed image can detect very subtle changes that are not always visable on other diagnostic images such as x-rays and ultrasound.

A CT scan might be recommended by one of our veterinary surgeons to investigate common aliments, for example;

  • Abdominal problems
  • Respiratory disease such as chronic coughing or breathing difficulties.
  • Nasal problems
  • Ear disease and infection
  • Trauma cases
  • Orthopaedic and joint problems

To under go a CT scan a patient requires a general anaesthetic or a heavy sedation as they need to remain still. On admission our veterinary surgeons will carry out a full health check and complete a consent form, answering any questions you might have about the procedure and associated costs.

We are happy to accept referrals from other local veterinary practices where a CT scan has been advised by the consulting veterinary surgeon.
